Membership and Support
The best way to experience the Hermitage Museum & Gardens is to become a Museum member. Membership allows you to actively take part in all the exhibitions, events and programs the Hermitage offers throughout the year. Your support is also vital for the existence of the Museum and the twelve acres of Gardens and Grounds. Although the Sloane Family established a foundation for the Hermitage when it first opened as a museum in 1937, this money no longer covers all the operating and maintenance expenses of the Museum and Grounds. The Hermitage is not owned or operated by the city or Norfolk. The Hermitage depends on other sources, most importantly the generosity of our members, for critical support for exhibitions, programs and the preservation of the buildings and Gardens. Your membership support ensures that the Hermitage Museum & Gardens will remain a vital and vibrant site where the community and artisans are given an opportunity to experience the wonder of great art and the outdoors. The Hermitage’s wide varieties of member benefits offer you and your family an impressive range of enjoyable and enriching experiences. From our Sunsets on the River concerts, to Summer Art Camp, studio art classes, and the changing exhibitions, there is no better time to become a member of the Hermitage Museum & Gardens. All or part of your membership fee may be tax deductible; please see IRS Publication 526, pg 4, ex. 2, ‘Membership fees or dues'. Donations are another great way to support this unique site, where you can find: an amazing art collection, a beautiful historic home, breathtaking gardens, impressive views of the Lafayette River, a charming arts school, and the new Studio Artist Program. Your generous donation will enable the Hermitage to preserve this treasure for the community and future generations. You can register as a member or make your donation online, or contact Megan Frost at (757) 423-2052 x 205 or mf@thfm.org. Thank you!
